Former US Open champion Samantha Stosur is all
set to battle former World No.1 Jalena Jankovic, in what promises to be
an intriguing contest between the two accomplished players.
Australian
Samantha Stosur will be in action today as she battles former World
No.1 Jalena Jankovic from Serbia in the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix being
played here in Stuttgart.
The Australian - Samantha Stosur
has struggled all year long. Her performance at the Australian Open was
rather disappointing and even in the tournaments preceding the Slam she
struggled to put in any form of consistent performances.
But
something that might just work in the favour of the former US Open
Champion is the fact that the courts here in Stuttgart are slower and
her kick serve could really hurt the Serbian, who isn’t the best mover
on the court.
Having failed to win a title in the WTA circuit for over two years, the Jalena Jankovic has
seen her ranking plummet to the mid-twenties. Also, considering her age
that is rapidly achieving that 30 mark, one cannot see Jankovic
reaching the anywhere close to the top of the ATP mountain now.
Jankovic
did however win a title recently winning the Copa Colsanitas in
February and played a highly impressive US hard court season where she
reached the semis in Miami and then also did well in the Family Circle
Cup in Charleston.
Head to Head:
The Serb has a 5-2 lead over the Australian in their head to head
series, but their only match on the red dirt resulted in a lopsided win
for Stosur
