Of
the nine ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournaments, the Miami Masters or
the Sony Open as it is officially called, happens to be one of the most
prestigious tournaments. The event provides a good opportunity to all
players to earn more world ranking points, and prepare them for the
grandeur battles that unfold during the course of 14 days.
An
annual-event held in March each year in Miami, the tournament was first
organized in 1985 and was initially referred to as Lipton International
Players Championship. However, the event came to be known by different
names as the sponsor of the event changed at regular intervals. In 2002,
it came to be known as the NASDAQ-100 Open and remained so for four
more years. The tournament was then again changed to Sony Ericsson Open
after the corporate giant agreed to a deal that was worth $20 million.
The latest edition of the event has also been renamed as the Sony Open
Tennis, and is expected to feature 18 of the top-20 male players in the
world, though Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have opted out for different reasons.
Here we take a look into the last ten champions of the Masters title and the final matches they played
